A woman’s heartbreaking story has gone viral after she detailed how her boyfriend asked her to marry him in a bittersweet proposal.

The story was re-shared on British reality TV stars’ Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo’s podcast, NewlyWeds.
Jamie and his wife Sophie broke down in tears as he read out the story from one of their listeners of how she had been with her boyfriend for almost six years before he secretly asked her dying dad for the woman’s hand in marriage.
The couple — who first met at aged 11 — were a year into their relationship when lockdown hit, forcing them to decide whether they should live together or not.
“It was also during this time that my amazingly brave dad got diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease,” she told the podcast hosts.
“The years that followed turned out to be the hardest years of my life, juggling work and being a carer for my dad full time.”
The woman said that she had been hinting at marriage to her boyfriend — but she knew it wasn’t the right time as her “focus was on making her dad feel comfy and safe in the last year of his life”>
“I knew dad loved my boyfriend, as his only communication at the end was a ‘thumbs up’ and he would always do that to my boyfriend when he came to see him,” she explained.
However, things took a heartbreaking turn when she lost her dad on November 5, 2023 as she stood by his side.
“Very sadly but extremely peacefully, my dad passed away,” she said.
“I was extremely emotional.”
On the morning of her birthday, she found a storybook on the table.
“My boyfriend made of our life together tipped me over the edge,” she explained.
“On the last page of the book was a picture of him on one knee.
“Two weeks before my dad died, my dad had a moment with my boyfriend alone, my boyfriend told him his plan and my dad gave him the ‘strongest thumbs up’ he had ever given him.”
Jamie struggled to get the words out as Sophie wiped away the tears on her face with a tissue.
“I can’t cope,” Sophie said.
The video received more than 1.8 million views — leaving many heartbroken in the comments.
“Crying right now,” said one.
“I wasn’t mentally prepared for this,” added another.
“This is a beautiful proposal, he loves this girl on another level,” said a third.
