Trains across Sydney delayed during peak hour as wet weather lashes city

Train lines across greater Sydney continue to face major delays as heavy rain and flash flooding smash the city.

The wet weather damaged equipment at Redfern station on Friday morning, but the issue will continue to impact multiple train lines across the city during the evening peak hour, according to Transport NSW (TNSW).

Those travelling on the T1 North Shore line and the T9 Northern Line have been advised to allow an extra hour for their evening commute as the services are still affected by the damaged equipment at Redfern, in the city’s inner south.

The T1 Western line, the T2 Inner West and Leppington Line, the T3 Bankstown Line, T5 Cumberland Line, and the T8 Airport and South Line have are also delayed.

“There may be larger than normal gaps between services, and stops may change at short notice,” TNSW said.

T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line returned to normal about midday after urgent train repairs at Wolli Creek prompted delays up to 10 minutes for commuters.

Limited buses between Riverstone and Richmond will also be in operation to supplement affected services.

Travellers are urged to continue checking Transport for NSW for updates and further information on their train lines.

Extra caution has also been advised when travelling in the wet weather to avoid injury.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said on Friday, it is “very important” that residents of NSW listen to updates, especially those who live in an at-risk community.

“It’s vitally important that you don’t take unnecessary risks, particularly driving through floodwaters,” he said.

The SES has carried out six rescues in the last few days, with that number expected to climb.

Those in at-risk communities are also urged to download the Hazards Near Me app for updates.
