Tom Hardy’s Mad Max Furiosa cameo confirmed as director lays out Mad Max 5 plans | Films | Entertainment

It’s been a decade since George Miller shot Mad Max: Fury Road, which went on to be hailed as one of the greatest action movies ever made.

Now a prequel focused on Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa is set to hit cinemas later this month with Anya Taylor-Joy playing a younger version of the character in the post-apocalyptic world.

Set 15-20 years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa will come face to face with a younger Immortan Joe and Chris Hemsworth’s Warlord Dementus.

And according to a new interview, Tom Hardy’s Mad Max will have a brief cameo in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

According to Entertainment Weekly: “Max and his beloved car, the Interceptor, make a humorously appropriate blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the film, which Miller says he had no choice but to include.”

By the sounds of it, this will be more of a nod to the character’s presence rather than him actually being played by Tom Hardy.

Unless, of course, a younger actor who looks somewhat like the star or original actor Mel Gibson turns up for a cameo in his car.

Whatever the case, the director also laid out his plans for Mad Max 5, which would be a prequel set a year before the events of Fury Road – so presumably Hardy could just about pass as young enough to reprise the role.

Miller shard: “In doing what we did in the preparation of Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film].

“And as we get towards the end of this movie, the chronology… Basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened. The writers know what happened to Mad Max in that year before, and we have a whole story of that, which I would like to do sometime if I get the chance.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits cinemas on May 24, 2024.
