The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur has joked about his marriage “hall passes” just hours after Hollywood star Sofia Vergara announced her surprise split.
The host was discussing the Modern Family actress’s divorce announcement with co-host Kylie Gillies and entertainment reporter Peter Ford when he made the surprising admission.

After Ford shared insights into the couple’s shock break-up, Gillies pointed out that Vergara held a notable place in Emdur’s life.
“Of course, for our viewers might remember that she’s your hall pass, right?” she said.
Emdur agreed, saying: “She’s my hall pass.”
A hall pass is when someone nominates a dream person outside of their relationship – usually a celebrity or someone very much out of reach.
However, Emdur was quick to note that while Vergara – who is travelling in Italy – is now on single, he’s very much unavailable.
“I’m married at the moment, so I’m not on the market,” he said.
“It’s not like I could go over to Italy now – get a Bonza Airlines flight over and go and pursue her because I’m happily married.”
Gillies then joked, “And yet you’ve come up with a plan quite quickly!”
Ford pointed out that Vergara isn’t Emdur’s only A-list hall pass.
“What happened to Eva Mendes, wasn’t she the hall pass?” he asked.
“It’s sort of whoever’s closest at the time,” Emdur responded. “It’s whoever’s more, like, realistically available.”
Gillies then noted that Emdur appeared to be captivated by Vergara’s split announcement.
“I’ve never seen you more interested in a story,” she said.
“That’s right,” Emdur laughed. “I’ve been on Webjet this morning.”
Gillies added that Vergara would need a “lot of consoling in this time of need.”
“And,” Emdur replied, “I’m a very giving person like that.”
Earlier on Sunrise, presenter Edwina Bartholomew lifted the lid on a surprising detail in Vergara’s shock divorce news.
While discussing the split, Bartholomew revealed the tell-tale sign that showed the couple were heading their separate ways.
“Sophia went to Italy on her 51st birthday with girlfriends,” she explained. “Originally, the friend said that Joe was busy filming.
“Then the writers’ strike happened so that excuse didn’t stand up.
“Then she posted it on her Instagram: ‘When life gives you lemons, you come to Italy and squeeze them’. If you know what I mean …
“So I mean, that was the giveaway.”
