Sturt Football Club members threatened with knife at grounds in Adelaide

An Adelaide football club said its property manager was threatened with a knife and players were left shaken as a group of young people hurled objects at them.

Sturt Football Club said five young people were riding bikes and running through senior training drills at the club’s ground in Unley on Thursday night.

When asked to leave, the SANFL club said one threatened the property manager and the others threw objects and verbally abused the players.

“As a precaution, members of our women’s team, visibly shaken by the experience, were escorted to their cars by coaching staff,” a statement posted to Facebook said.

The club suspect the same group vandalised property at Unley Oval later that night.

South Australia Police were called to the football grounds on Trimmer Tce at 6.20pm, but were unable to locate the suspects.

On Friday morning, police received reports of graffiti damage to property.

Sturt Football Club said its grandstands, new interchange shelter, coaches’ boxes, canteen, benches, pavers, and public toilets were targeted.

It said it’s working closely with the City of Unley and its volunteers to have the graffiti removed before games on Saturday.

“This group is believed to be behind other recent damage to the City of Unley infrastructure and businesses,” the club said.

Police are investigating both incidents.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
