Six people injured in double attack that started at McDonald’s drive-through in Tasmania’s north

Six people have been injured in a double assault which started in a McDonald’s drive-thru in Tasmania’s north.

Two men were first attacked by a group of men who got out of a car at the fast food outlet — and who then sped off, only to attack the same two men and their friends a short time later at a nearby shopping mall.

Four of the six victims were taken to hospital as police appealed for help to find the attackers.

The first attack happened at the McDonald’s restaurant in Devonport’s CBD about 1am on Sunday when about three or four men exited a vehicle in the drive-thru and confronted two men outside the restaurant.

One victim was kicked in the ribs, while the other was hit in the jaw.

The offenders then drove off in a ute with interstate plates.

The two male victims, then accompanied by four friends, say the same group of attackers approached them again about 20 minutes later in Rooke St Mall.

All six were assaulted, police said.

Two of the men were knocked unconscious and four of the six injured men required treatment in hospital.

The offenders again fled the scene and are now wanted by police who suspect the involvement of outlaw motorcycle gang members.

“Anyone involved in outlaw motorcycle gangs, whether that be directly or indirectly, is not welcome in our community,” Western District Commander Stuart Wilkinson said.

“Tasmania is a safe place, and we will not stand for the violence and sheer thuggery witnessed during these assaults on the weekend.”

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.
