Adam and his wife Lisa were just a regular couple from Melbourne before they won the Channel 7 renovation show House Rules in 2014.

During the process, they met then-host Joh on set.

Little did Adam know that – fast-forward a year – he would be presenting alongside her on the beloved lifestyle show Better Homes.

“She’s the best in the business,” Adam tells 7Life of his colleague.

“Whether you’re in the TV world or you are just a normal punter, she’ll treat you the same, no matter what.

“My first meeting with Griggsy was on House Rules as a contestant and she was just such a beautiful lady, so welcoming and supportive.”

Adam says that competing in the series “changed (his and his wife Lisa’s) lives forever”, opening the door to future opportunities and paying off their mortgage.

He says that while on House Rules, Joh was “absolutely amazing and brought comfort, obviously helping the nerves go away.”

According to the builder, after “spending a lot of time” with Joh on the reality show, he received a phone call from Channel 7.

He was shocked to be offered a presenting role on TV.

“I mean I freaked out, I said, ‘What do you want me to do on Better Homes?’” he recalls.

I said, ‘You want me to be a presenter, I can’t even speak English properly and you want me to bl**** present.’

And they said, ‘We just want you to be yourself’.”

Mulling the offer over, Adam called the one person he knew on TV, the woman he fondly calls ‘Griggsy’.

“I spoke to her and got her thoughts about it, because I knew absolutely nothing about TV and I never wanted to go into TV,” he confides.

“My passion was my building companies, and it still is. So TV just sort of fell into my lap.”

After his call with Joh, Adam decided to take the plunge and accept the job offer.

Nearly 10 years on, he says he “definitely has no regrets”.

“I spoke to my wife and said, ‘you know what, life’s too short. Give something a go that you have no idea about for a year or two and at least you’ve got a story to tell’,” Adam says.

“I was going into it thinking, ‘Oh yeah, might last a year or two’ and you look back now, it’s almost been 10 years and it’s still going.”

In 2016, his stint on Better Homes earned him a Logie Award for Best New Talent and he says he’s formed some “great relationships” thanks to the show.

Moving on to more recent accomplishments, Adam says that he and Joh just returned from filming the show in Ireland.

He called the project, that is set to air in August, “awesome”.

“I’ve been so blessed and I’ve got so many great memories and I get to work with great people,” he continues.

“The team at Better Homes is amazing, they’re such hardworking people.

“Griggsy, as I said, I’ve got an amazing relationship with her, she’s an absolute champion.”

Adam, Joh and the Better Homes team are set to reunite for Australian TV’s night of nights, The Logies, hosted at The Star Sydney on July 30.
