Manhunt underway for ex-Washington cop accused of murder, kidnapping

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. (NewsNation) — A manhunt is underway for a former Washington police officer who law enforcement says is suspected of killing two people and kidnapping a one-year-old child.

Suspect named in shooting, kidnapping

Elias Huizar, 39, allegedly fled William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland Monday afternoon with Roman Huizar, 1, after a shooting that killed one woman, West Richland police said during a press conference Monday.

The Portland Police Department reported Elias Huizar was seen in Portland, Oregon, overnight, possibly driving a black sedan. The West Richland Police Department said all resources were following up on this lead. Police fear Huizar is heading toward Mexico.

Authorities said on Monday they believed Elias Huizar to have fled in a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla with a license plate of CBZ-4745.

Amber Alert issued for Roman Huizar

An amber alert was issued Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. local time for Roman Huizar, who has been described as 2-foot-6 and 25 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Elias Huizar is 5-foot-6, 170 pounds and also has brown hair and brown eyes.

West Richland police believe Elias Huizar — who was a Yakima officer from 2014-2022 — is armed and dangerous and is likely to commit more crimes.

Second victim tied to Elias Huizar

Another victim was found at Huizar’s residence when authorities executed a search warrant, police said.

The identities of both victims have yet to be confirmed by police, but multiple reports say they are believed to be Huizar’s ex-wife and girlfriend.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
