Lewis Capaldi surprises Glasgow bar in first performance since taking break from music

Lewis Capaldi performed at a Glasgow bar in his first appearance since taking a mental health break.

In his first public show since June, the West Lothian singer treated fans to an impromptu performance at Sauchiehall Street bar Broadcast on Sunday night

A video shared on TikTok shows the chart-topper giving a stripped back rendition of Before You Go with just a keyboard.

It comes after he decided to take time away from the spotlight to get his “mental and physical health in order” after struggling to finish his set at Glastonbury in the summer.

In a social media statement at the time, Capaldi said: “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let yo u know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out.

“But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

It is unknown when the singer plans to return to the stage again.
