Kate Middleton Photographs Prince Louis’s Sixth Birthday Portrait

Kate Middleton is once again behind the camera.

Today, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new photograph of their son, Prince Louis, for his sixth birthday. It shows the young royal smiling, in a blue and yellow checkered shirt, while laying outside on a blanket. The photograph was taken at Windsor, where the family has a home of Adelaide Cottage, in April.

“Happy 6th Birthday, Prince Louis!” The family wrote in a caption, along with a cake emoji. “Thank you for all the kind wishes today.”

The photo comes months after Middleton herself came under fire for Photoshopping family images. A portrait she took of the family for U.K. Mother’s Day received a “kill notice” from AP Images due to several noticeable editing errors. “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she said in a statement. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”

Although it’s usually a tradition for the royal family to share pictures on their children’s birthday, it was unclear this year if it would continue. In March, Middleton announced she was undergoing preventative treatment for cancer. In an emotional video, she discussed taking time away from the spotlight to heal as well as spend time with her three young children as they grapple with her diagnosis. Above all, she asked for privacy. With this all considered, if the family didn’t decide to share a portrait, it would have been understandable.

Yet, despite it all, it seems that the Waleses have decided to keep up the status quo.
