How to watch all the Deadpool movies in order ahead of new film | Films | Entertainment

With a new Deadpool movie just around the corner, there’s no better time to catch up with the character’s big-screen exploits. The films star Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson – better known as Deadpool – a masked mercenary whose superhuman regenerative abilities make him effectively immortal.

The character is set to appear alongside Hugh Jackman in the upcoming third entry in the Deadpool film series, Deadpool & Wolverine, slated to hit cinemas in July. It is a landmark moment for the Marvel franchise as the film rights to Deadpool, Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men were previously owned by 20th Century Fox.

That was until March 2019, when Marvel Studios regained the film rights to the X-Men – and other characters like the Fantastic 4 – paving the way for a host of new heroes to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This will form a large part of the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to bring together the Fox and Marvel film franchises and form part of the MCU’s Phase Five.

Directed by Shawn Levy and also starring Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney and Matthew Macfadyen, Deadpool & Wolverine will see the Wade pulled from his quiet life by the Time Variance Authority – the bureaucratic organisation of timeline-monitors last seen in Disney+ series Loki – and cross paths with wethered mutant Wolverine. The duo come together to fight a common enemy in a mission that will merge timelines and change the history of the MCU forever.

So if you want to get caught up before the arrival of the latest Marvel blockbuster, here’s how to watch all the Deadpool movies in order.

  • Deadpool (2016)
  • Deadpool 2 (2018)

There are just two official Deadpool movies, but it’s worth noting Ryan Reynolds first appeared as the character in 2009 X-Men prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though perhaps confusingly this is a different version of the character than he who appears in the recent films and is not connected to MCU in any way. All three films are available to stream exclusively on Disney+, which Marvel fans can join from as little as £4.99 a month.

Disney+ members can get the equivalent of two months free by paying for a year upfront, bagging 12 months for the price of 10 on the Standard or Premium plans. A 12-month subscription to the Premium plan now costs £109.90 – saving £21.98 compared to paying monthly – and includes higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR, plus the ability to stream on four devices simultaneously.

Disney+ is home to acclaimed shows like X-Men ‘97, Loki, The Bear and Welcome to Wrexham, as well as the upcoming Shardlake, The Beatles: Let It Be and Star Wars: The Acolyte. If you want to brush up on your mutant knowledge before Deadpool & Wolverine, Disney+ is also home to the entire X-Men film series.
