House with tunnel – and possibly other secrets – hits the market in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane

There’s more to this stunning old Queenslander than meets the eye.

Perched on 1045 sq m in Kelvin Grove in inner-northern Brisbane, owner Nicole Terrassin describes it as a “sanctuary”.

“It just hit me. I felt like I was out of time and space. I’d gone back to another era,” she told 7NEWS.

“My friends and family, we all call the house “Madame” because we feel it has its own presence, own feel.

“In a city that’s bustling and growing, she’s kept the grace of the era she was built in.”

And this “Madame” has her secrets.

An easy-to-miss door high on the wall of an outdoor storage room serves as an entry to a tunnel running the length of the property.

What’s more, Terrassin is convinced the full extent of the underground structure has not been uncovered.

She believes a section of the tunnel with bricked walls could be hiding more tunnel, a bunker or room.

“I convinced my dear friend and builder to drill a core sample through it (the wall),” she said.

“He said, ‘To humour you, Nicole, I’ll do it, but you know there’ll just be dirt behind that?’.

“So we drilled a core sample, and behind that you can see there’s loose rubble.

“Clearly, there is something else behind that. Whether there’s a tunnel or whether there’s another room, I don’t know because I haven’t talked him into knocking the whole doorway down.

“It’s just another one of her mysteries. “I love it. That’s what makes it special.”

Terrassin is selling the house and hopes the next owner may be able to uncover the truth.
