Here’s How Lupita Nyong’o Got Her Y2K Body Shimmer at the 2024 Oscars — See Photos

If Lupita Nyong’o‘s 2024 Oscars look seems familiar, that’s no coincidence. Her styling and glam teams came together to pay tribute to the look she wore 10 years ago when she won an Academy Award for her performance in 12 Years a Slave. But there’s something very distinct about the look this time around that reached a little farther back in time: some seriously sparkly body shimmer that serves major Y2K beauty vibes.

“For Lupita’s makeup look, I was inspired to pay homage to the same makeup look she wore when she won her Oscar exactly a decade ago,” says makeup artist Nick Barose, who relied almost entirely on Chanel products. “I took the basis of this look and then added a more defined brow, eye, and lip, but all in the same warm, orange color palette. I wanted this look to be just a bit more dialed up, dramatic, and bold.”

He gave Nyong’o a metallic, bronze-y eye with Chanel Ombre Première Laque Longwear Liquid Eyeshadow in Desert Wind, warm, pearlescent cheeks with Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Winter Blush in Mauve Glacé, and an all-over radiance Chanel Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Highlighting Fluid in Sunkissed — the last of which was not limited to just her face.

Barose also covered Nyong’o’s exposed skin below the neck in Chanel’s lightweight, long-lasting illuminator. But he didn’t stop there. To get that supernaturally sparkly look, he topped it off with Ashunta Sheriff Unicorn Multichrome Glitter Shadow. “With a small brush, I lightly dusted the glitter on top,” he tells Allure, noting that he focused on her collarbones and the front of her arms.
