Go Digit listing: Both our medium and long term journey will be good: Kamesh Goyal, Go Digit

Kamesh Goyal, Chairman, Go Digit, says India’s market penetration, at 1% of the GDP, is really small. In the next 5 to 10 years, if we move from 1 to 1.3, 1.25% of the GDP, the opportunity for growth is just enormous. “As long as India does well, the journey in our business is long term in nature. I am sure both the medium and long term journey will be good,” he says. Congratulations on the Go Digit listing. What next?
Kamesh Goyal: We have already said that for us, listing is more of a responsibility. Taking money from investors, especially mutual funds in India is big; they raise money from retail investors, so it is a responsibility. We will do our best. And as for plans, it is a big milestone. The way we see it is, in a long journey, this is a very important milestone, but the journey continues.

If we talk about the general insurance sector, the penetration is still 1% only and going ahead when we talk about the $5 trillion economy. How much opportunity is there for overall general insurance space and in that opportunity you will also get the benefit out of it?
Kamesh Goyal: India’s penetration, everyone knows that at 1% of the GDP is really small. So, I am hoping that in the next 5 to 10 years, even if we move from 1 to 1.3, 1.25% of the GDP, the opportunity for growth is just enormous. As long as India does well, which I am sure it will, then the journey in our business is long term in nature. I am sure both the medium and long term journey will be good.
