Flight attendant’s little-known water bottle trick every traveller should do in a hotel room

A flight attendant has shared a little-known water bottle trick every traveller should do upon checking into a hotel room.

Esther, from the Netherlands, has stayed in hotels all over the world since she started working as an air steward in 2019.

Before she lets her guard down in her hotel room, she always rolls a water bottle under the bed to ensure there’s no unwanted guest hiding.

The solo traveller said the method was great for checking under the bed without having to crouch down to look under.

“Throw a bottle under the bed… The bottle will come out on the other side,” she said.

But if the bottle fails to roll out from the other side of the bed, a stranger could be lurking under there.

Her video has been viewed more than 380,000 times, with many describing the water bottle trick as “brilliant”.

“Never even occurred to me that someone could be under the bed — new fear unlocked,” one said.

Esther has always been vigilant wherever she goes.

She has made a series of videos showing the extreme lengths she goes to keep herself safe in her hotel rooms.

Her safety checklist includes checking the bathroom, wardrobe, behind the curtains and under the table.

She previously revealed how she would use her suitcase to keep the door open upon arrival so she could thoroughly check her hotel room to ensure it’s safe.

The flight attendant has gained more than 220,000 followers on social media from sharing her tips for flying and staying safe in hotels.

She said she always keeps a single shoe in her hotel room’s safe along with her personal valuables to remind herself not to forget anything when she checks out.

“Worried about forgetting something from your safe? Put your heel or shoe in it and you won’t forget it,” she said.

If you keep an item such as a shoe or jacket you’re planning on wearing when you check out, you’re more than likely to look inside the safe because you know it’s the last place you left it.

Another tip Esther shared was using the hotel’s complimentary shower cap to store dirty shoes in your suitcase.

“What else is a shower cap useful for? Use it as a cover over your shoes,” she said.

To use the room’s remote control to watch TV, Esther suggested wrapping the shower cap over it.

“Shower cap is also very handy for your remote control. Those things are dirty,” she said.

And if your curtains are not closing properly, she suggested using the clips on a clothes hanger to shut the blinds.
