Dream Home’s Brad and Mel reveal his secret music career in a chart-topping boy band CBD during the early 1990s

Brad Pinto is currently starring on smash hit Dream Home.

But the home renovator might already be a familiar face to some fans of the show, given his previous career as a founding member of the Aussie boy band CDB, who shot to fame in the early 1990s.

Brad, his brother Gary, and Andrew De Silva and Danny Williams, released a string of hits, including the Earth, Wind & Fire remake Let’s Groove, which peaked at number two on the ARIA charts in 1995.

On Monday, Brad and his wife Mel joined Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies on The Morning Show, where he reminisced about his music career and his bandmates.

Gillies asked Brad if the band became rich from the experience, but Brad said, unfortunately not.

“The reality of the music industry is unless you’re a king songwriter or touring nonstop, and selling a lot of merchandise, it is a struggle,” Brad said.

“The arts in Australia, it is a small country, if you move overseas, you sacrifice your family life, and there are a lot of considerations, it’s not as easy as people think.”

Brad and Mel then spoke about the challenges of Dream Home.

Six teams battle it out room by room in the show, transforming tired suburban family houses into astonishing new dream homes, with the winning couple set to pocket $100,000.

“I would say the most challenging thing we have done in our life,” Mel said.

“Equally exhilarating, but we just had to have an open mind, learn really quickly, and also lean on the amazing talent and trades that we had around us.

“Our builders were incredible, our tradies were unbelievable.”

Mel explained the couple weren’t worried about leaving their home in the hands of their competitors.

“Not for Brad and I — when we were thinking about renovating, we were going to do a modest renovation, an extra toilet and shower would have been sufficient, a blessing for us.

“So the idea of somebody building a dream house for us was like, ‘good on you, go for it’ and we didn’t have any idea of what was going on whatsoever.”

The couple is currently stuck sleeping in a dining room and said much drama would unfold in the coming weeks.

“The contestants are such lovely people — everyone is so different,” Brad said.

“There are different personalities. There are people who are rookies — us. Just a lot of growth, I think.”

Mel said the transformations would be incredible.

“We didn’t really see or understand what was going on in our home, but walking into an existing footprint and literally within two days, a full demolition and then the house starts to transform,” Mel said.

“It is pretty incredible to watch it move.”

Dream Home continues tonight at 7.30pm, on 7 and 7Plus.
