Parts of southern Queensland are warned of potential flash flooding, with between 60mm to 200mm of rain forecast.
The wet weather is expected to span from Brisbane down to the Gold Coast and into the northern rivers of NSW.
Meteorologist Dean Narramore warned Sydney and Canberra should also expect wet weather.
“On Tuesday, we’ll see showers and thunderstorms, some severe, continue across northern and eastern Australia with hot, dry weather in WA and mild and sunny conditions in southern Australia,” he said.
On Wednesday and Thursday, showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue across northern and eastern Australia, Narramore added.
The wet weather is also expected to spread into parts of Victoria and South Australia later in the week.
Into the weekend, rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall are expected across much of northern and eastern Australia.
“Great for those looking for rain … not so much for those harvesting this week,” Narramore said.
Meanwhile, a severe storm warning is currently in place for Queensland’s southern interior and the far northwest.
“Heavy rainfall is the primary hazard in the south, but large hail and damaging winds are also possible,” the BOM warned.
