It’s believed the fee will be €3 million (AUD$5.5m) plus add-ons, which will shatter the previous A-League record set by Melbourne City when they sold winger Marco Tilio to Scottish side Celtic for €1.75 million (AUD$2.9m)

Irankunda shot to stardom when he debuted for Adelaide last season and already earned a call-up to the Socceroos senior team in March this year, although he didn’t feature.

The supremely talented forward has a lethal right foot and an incredible ability to find the back of the net from any angle.

Irankunda was born in a Tanzanian refugee camp after his family fled Burundi’s civil war.

He moved to Perth when he was three months old before moving again to Adelaide.

Since making his A-League debut as a 15-year-old, Irankunda has always been destined for a move overseas.

He was linked to a move to Bayern Munich 18 months ago and speaking to 7NEWS Adelaide ahead of this season, Irankunda said the constant speculation was taking its toll.

“It’s pretty stressful to be honest, but I feel like I’m doing the best I can to deal with it,” he said in October.

“At the end of the day I’m just happy to have the opportunity I have right now.

“Obviously it’s great to have big clubs after me and hopefully I’ll be able to play for a big club soon.

“It’s mentally exhausting … a lot of things have happened in the past few months but the clubs are doing their best to get the deal done.”

Irankunda was involved in a scary incident three months ago when he could not breathe after taking a heavy fall in a state-league match

The semi-final against Campbelltown City was just minutes away from full-time when panic set in after the 17-year-old crashed face-first into the turf.

Luckily the referee was also a doctor and saved his life.

“He was gasping for air,” the referee Dr Christian Verdicchio told 7NEWS.

“It was at that point, when he was holding his throat, it was very clear that he was not in a good situation.”

Dr Verdicchio, a cardiac rehabilitation expert, immediately recognised the danger.

“Rolled him over, tried to get the tongue out and once that was done just kept him there side-on,” he said.

“I’ve seen players hit the floor before and not breathe but that one was something different. He was not in a good place at all.”
