But just minutes later, her worst fears were realised and she was ruled out.

It is a huge blow for North Melbourne.

Bruton had been a star in the preliminary final, helping her team defeat powerhouse Adelaide in a one-point thriller.

Channel 7 commentator Nat Edwards said it was “shattering“ news.

“As I mentioned, it was a dramatic first half. In the opening minutes, in fact, it was Jenna Bruton, one of North Melbourne’s stars who went down with a right foot injury,” Edwards said.

“She is done for the day. Absolutely devastating that Jenna Bruton is out for the Roos.

“She’s such a crucial player. She was on crutches. She’s in the moon boot as well.

“Absolutely shattering for the Roos.”
