“You Just Touched It!” Thom Browne Offers an Inside-Look at His Fall 2024 Couture Collection

Thom Browne presented his sophomore couture collection late last month in Paris. Last year, when he first announced that he would be venturing into the world of haute couture, the New York-based designer and CFDA chairman said one of his main goals was to bring American-made craftsmanship to the hallowed couture week calendar. That first go was a success, so it comes as no surprise that this year Browne, who loves to give himself a challenge, returned for round two.

A couple of days before the show, Vogue visited Browne at his Paris offices on Avenue Montaigne for an exclusive preview of his collection. The designer allowed us to crash a fitting as he walked us through some of the looks the studio team—working diligently in head-to-toe Thom Browne, of course—had just completed next door.

Browne explained his outlook on couture and how his love for sports folded into this season’s collection, which nodded to the Olympic Games taking place in Paris later this month. He also broke down two key looks in his lineup by the numbers, giving away the mind-blowing amounts of beads, fabric, human hands, and working hours required to create a spectacular rouleau button-front tailored jacket and pencil skirt.
