Women Enjoy an hour’s more sleep a night…and they need it

It could be dubbed the War of the Dozes…but when it comes to bedtime, women snooze for an hour longer than men.

A sleep study has revealed the average UK woman gets eight hours of shut-eye a night, compared with seven for men.

And it’s just as well because experts say females need the extra nap time to recover from a typical day’s multi-tasking.

Two-thirds of men said they required less sleep than their spouses and tended to rise earlier.

Meanwhile, 60 percent of women said they hit the sack earlier and therefore got more rest.

Both sexes said they were getting less sleep as they aged and that summer was the worst time for disrupted sleep due to the heat and light disturbance.

And the survey of 2,000 people by CBD brand Naturecan also revealed sex is the most effective Land-of-Nod aid – with 76 percent of women and 82 percent of men sleeping better after intimacy.

Other effective methods were routine, good sleep hygiene – dark curtains and double glazing for silence – and working hard at
your job.

Health professionals say we need at least seven hours of kip a night for optimum well-being after reaching 18.

But scientists at Loughborough University, Leicestershire, discovered women required more sleep recovery because their brains tend to multitask more during the day.

The survey also found sleep imbalance had caused tension for 63 percent of couples.

Over half had slept separately to catch up but only 8 percent had separate bedrooms.

Summer heat caused the worst sleep disruption, followed by light, stress, noise, snoring, bathroom breaks and pets.

And researchers said 37 percent of women and 28 percent of men resorted to taking something to help them nod off.

Sleeping pills were the most popular artificial remedy, followed by CBD – cannabidiol – products such as gummies, oil, valerian root, magnesium and lavender.

A Naturecan spokesman said: ”We all know how crucial good sleep is to our overall well-being.”

These results show we are sleeping less, particularly during these hot summer months, and many couples have completely different sleep patterns.

Sleep imbalances can cause big problems in a relationship because intimacy inevitably suffers when we are not in bed together.

“More people are taking remedies to aid sleep, particularly new products such as CBD oils and gummies.”
