As the autumnal season takes a firm hold, comfort food becomes the go-to for many of us, with hearty meals at the top of the agenda.
It’s the prime time for indulging in warm soups, and one woman has taken to social media to divulge her easy-to-make recipe that’s not only delicious, but could also be the trick to shedding a few pounds. Shai, the influencer behind the TikTok handle @turbangirlofficial, responded to her followers’ curiosity by revealing how she concocts her famous soup.
During the peak of her slimming journey, Shai admitted to consuming the soup four to five times weekly, praising its protein-rich and vegetable-packed contents. Moreover, she pointed out the benefits of soup for weight loss, as its consistency tends to satisfy hunger for extended periods.
This “secret” concoction was pivotal in her impressive loss of over 20kg (approximately three stone) in months. Yet now, she’s peeling back the curtain on this recipe to satisfy the eager masses searching for effortlessly manageable weight loss strategies.
According to Shai, the recipe starts with boiling roughly 130g of chicken breast until it reaches a shreddable state. The meat should be seasoned generously with salt, pepper, turmeric and just a hint of saffron.
She then turns to browning her array of vegetables in a blend of one tablespoon each of olive oil, garlic paste and ginger paste. Shai tosses a full bag of spinach, an array of mixed frozen veggies, a handful of sweetcorn, plus diced onion and tomato into the mix to complete her nourishing creation.
The TikTok user also throws in some red lentils, though she confessed you can switch up the veggies and lentils to suit your taste. Then, she stirs in half a cup of oats, a few spring onions, two tablespoons of soy sauce and a selection of seasonings to add an extra zing.
Shai has a penchant for turmeric powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, chilli and parsley – but she conceded these can be tweaked according to personal preference. When the shredded chicken is semi-cooked, she folds it into the mixture.
Next up, she pours in one cup of stock cube solution, followed by two cups of water. The final step is a simple stir-together before tweaking the Instapot settings as needed.
For those using a hob instead of an Instapot, Shai advises simmering on low heat for 20 to 30 minutes after setting it to cook for half an hour. Any surplus can be frozen for later indulgence.
Per Shai’s calculations, a single cup of this hearty soup packs a punch with 215 calories and a protein content ranging between 18g to 20g. She also said you’ll probably get five servings out of the batch.
The recipe has gone viral since hitting the internet, racking up over 11,000 likes, with her fans eager to share their thoughts. They’ve hailed it as a “great” culinary creation.
One enthusiast commented: “I will definitely try. It looks simple and easy.” Another chimed in with: “Great idea – I’ll definitely be trying this.”
A third added: “Going to try this. So perfect for the winter too.” Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: “I could have this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yum!”
