Police allege MacMahon’s Toyota Prius was struck by a Hyundai i30 at the intersection of Baines St and Main St in Kangaroo Point.
Witnesses said the Hyundai driver “ran through a red light at speed”, state Greens leader Michael Berkman said.
MacMahon was treated for head and suspected spinal injures and taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
A 26-year-old Moorooka woman who was allegedly driving the Hyundai was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the young woman has now been served with a notice to appear in court for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
She is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrate’s Court on March 14.
