Woman charged for attempted drowning of two children in Sydney’s southwest

A woman who allegedly attempted to drown two children in Sydney’s southwest has been charged.

Emergency services were called to Riverpark Dr in Liverpool about 10.30am on September 11 last year after reports of concern for welfare.

Police then found a 36-year-old woman had fallen from the Light Horse Bridge, and she was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Just over two hours later, emergency services were called to the Georges River, near Riverpark Dr, after they received reports two children were in the water.

Two girls, aged 8 and 7, were rescued by a passerby before they were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police have been investigating the incident and about 11.30am Wednesday the now 37-year-old woman was released from hospital and charged with two counts of attempt to drown person with intent to murder (DV).

Police will allege in court the woman threw the two girls into the water.

She was refused bail and appeared before Liverpool Local Court yesterday.
