William Pfeiffer, the Adelaide teen who died in his sleep, remembered as special boy whose smile melted hearts

An Adelaide teenager who mysteriously died in his sleep has been remembered as a loving and goofy boy who had so much potential.

William Pfeiffer,14, went to bed during a sleepover at his grandparent’s house on the night of Saturday, August 19, but in the morning didn’t wake up.

His parents said the family still do not know the cause of his death.

Pfeiffer was farwelled at a funeral at in Adelaide, with guests asked to attend in an array of colourful outfits to honour his memory as a bright and happy teenager.

His mother, Karen Lynch, described her world being shattered into pieces the day he died, and waking up into a “nightmare” every day she has to live without him.

“Life will never be the same again … I know that I will never get to hold you, kiss your face or hear your beautiful laugh again, (it) breaks my heart to a million pieces,” she said to loved ones at the service.

“You were not just my son, you were my friend.

“I’m so scared of the details I will forget of Will, and I beg of you to help me remember them.”

Lynch thanked her parents for making their home a loving place for her son to visit.

She also thanked them and a number of others for trying their best to revive him.

She said Pfeiffer would often say he wanted to take snacks to his friends’ houses when he visited because he didn’t want to go empty-handed.

His brother, Harry, and sister, Grace, created offerings of Pfeiffer’s favourite lollies for guests who attended the wake to take home.

“I promise you, while I would give anything to be with William, I promise I won’t leave your sides,’” Lynch said to her other children.

Family friend, Helen, described Pfeiffer as a colourful soul who kept his parents on their toes.

She said he loved Lego, video games and cheeseburgers.

“William dreamed of one day becoming a police officer, a goal he would have certainly achieved with his love of learning and his determination,” Helen said.

He had a smile that would melt their hearts, she said.

An online fundraiser has raised $50,000 so far to support his family with the cost of the funeral and support services they may require in the wake of William’s passing.
