Wild weather will sweep across South Australia to the east coast over the next 48 hours, with a combination of rain and severe thunderstorms predicted for the nation’s southeast.
It will likely sweep through SA on Thursday, then reach Victoria and NSW on Friday, with thunderstorms predicted for Melbourne.
Sydney is also expected to endure large amounts of rainfall on Friday, with the possible downpour predicted to be between 2mm to 15mm.

The weather is being caused by an intense cold front slamming into a humid northerly airstream.
On Thursday, Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac gave his forecast.
“Shower or two for Cairns. Townsville, partly cloudy. Maroochydore, partly cloudy. Brisbane showers. Gold Coast, shower or two. Dubbo, mostly sunny. Sydney sunny. Canberra, late shower or two. Mildura showers possible storm,” Mac said.
“Melbourne showers, increasing. Launceston, possible showers. Hobart, shower or two. Mount Gambier, showers increasing. Ceduna, showers, possible storm. Adelaide showers possible storm.
“Adelaide showers possible storm here as well. Alice Springs shower or two, possible storm. Albany, morning shower or two. Kalgoorlie, shower or two. Perth, morning shower or two.
“We will be in Perth for tomorrow’s show leading into Telethon. Bring it on. Broome sunny. Carnarvon partly cloudy.”
