Recently, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen traded in a Shelby-modified Ford F-150 Raptor at the dealership he originally bought it from. The dealership in turn decided to give the truck away through a drawing. They also offered an alternative prize of $100,000 if the winner didn’t want the truck. When the winner was chosen, well, what do you know, he took that $100,000 instead, WIVB reports.
“We love the Bills organization, we love Josh Allen, we’re very appreciative for West Herr,” Josh G., who did not give his last name, told media. “This is an absolutely beautiful truck. However, $100,000 is life-changing money and we couldn’t pass it up. We’re extremely grateful for both Josh Allen and West Herr,” winner and Buffalo, New York resident Josh G. said in a statement.
And you know what? We don’t blame him. Not even a little bit. First of all, he’d have to pay taxes on the truck, so you better hope you have enough extra money in the bank to cover the Bill. At least with $100,000, you can just set part of the money aside for taxes. Also, the F-150 Raptor is a big truck. Some would even say too big. Not many people are going to want to put up with driving such a massive vehicle on a daily basis. The fact that it’s a Shelby Raptor narrows the pool of people who would legitimately enjoy owning it significantly.
And no offense to Josh Allen, who is absolutely a talented guy, but is there really that much appeal in giving up $100,000 so you can tell people you drive Josh Allen’s truck? You’d have to be a Buffalo Bills superfan for that to make sense. There are probably a couple of people in upstate New York who would still take that deal, but again, they’d be passing up a massive cash windfall to do so. Arguably, the only reason it would make sense would be if you were already independently wealthy to the point that owning a truck with a unique pedigree is all that really matters.
So if anyone tells you that you made the wrong decision here, Josh G., you can go ahead and tell them Jalopnik says you would have been a fool to pass on the cash. Trucks come and go, but $100,000 is $100,000.
