After eight years off our screens, Bridget Jones will soon return in a brand-new rom-com, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. The announcement of the fourth instalment in the film series comes 23 years since the release of the first film way back in 2001.
Mad About the Boy is scheduled for release in the US on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025 – with a UK release to be confirmed – with Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson all set to return alongside One Day star Leo Woodall and Oscar-nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor. With months to go until Bridget Jones 4 is released, we recommend using your time wisely and reacquainting yourself with self-professed spinster Bridget Jones by watching the first three movies – all of which are available on Sky Cinema and NOW.

Bridget Jones 1-3

Naturally, we start with all three Bridget Jones movies, all of which are available on Sky Cinema. The first – Bridget Jones’s Diary – is based on the 1996 book of the same name and stars Renée Zellweger as Bridget, a 30-something hopeless singleton who is hell bent on finding a man.
Her quest for love leaves her torn between Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and his former best-friend Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). In the second movie – Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason – the love triangle continues as Bridget’s relationship with Mark is threatened when she meets Mark’s beautiful assistant and Daniel returns to stir up trouble.
In the third instalment – Bridget Jones’s Baby – a still-single Bridget discovers she’s pregnant and that the father could be either Mark or Jack (Patrick Dempsey), a man she met whilst embracing single life at a music festival. In classic Bridget fashion she sets out to discover who is the baby’s father.
Love Actually

A classic movie that some argue is one of the best ever rom-coms that features three stars of Bridget Jones 4. Love Actually follows the love lives of eight different loosely-connected couples in the run-up to Christmas.
Hugh Grant stars as the UK Prime Minister and treats viewers to an iconic dance scene which sees him dancing through 10 Downing Street to the Pointer Sisters anthem Jump (For My Love) by. Emma Thompson plays his sister, a devoted wife and mother who discovers her husband has been having an affair with a younger woman from work.
Chiwetel Ejiofor also stars as Peter, the partner of Keira Knightley’s character Juliet, who is the love interest of Peter’s best friend Mark (Andrew Lincoln).
The White Lotus

This American anthology series follows the guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain, with the second season set in Sicily during a European summer. Leo Woodall undeniably had one of the most talked about scenes of its hit second season.
The English actor’s role made him a breakout star, with the internet going crazy over an intimate encounter with his supposed uncle in episode five. Woodall stars as Jack, a young Essex lad who develops a holiday romance with Portia (Haley Lu Richardson), a hotel guest who is there in a professional capacity as the assistant of her boss, Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge).
The Undoing
Who: Hugh Grant
Based on the 2014 novel You Should Have Known, The Undoing is a ‘whodunnit’ thriller that follows the seemingly perfect life of Grace (Nicole Kidman), a wealthy New York therapist whose life gets flipped upside down when her family become involved in a murder case. Hugh Grant stars as Grace’s husband Jonathan, who finds himself as the lead suspect in the murder of a fellow parent at their son’s school.
Notting Hill

If there’s one thing Hugh Grant is great at, it’s a rom-com and Notting Hill is one that needs no introduction. Grant’s role as bookstore owner William Thacker earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor and saw the film become a regular in many all-time best film lists.
It follows the unlikely romance between William and a world-famous American actress (Julia Roberts), who happens to walk into his shop in Notting Hill and turn his life upside down.
2012
Who: Chiwetel Ejiofor
This apocalyptic thriller is based on the 2012 phenomenon and the Mayan belief that the world would come to a spectacular end on December 21, 2012. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as geologist and chief scientific advisor to the US President Adrian Helmsley, who fights to survive a series of global catastrophic events – namely earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis – that will bring an end to the world as we know it.
Jerry Maguire

Who: Renee Zellweger
Jerry Maguire is the sports comedy-drama that spawned a raft of popular catchphrases, including Tom Cruise’s now-iconic “Show me the money!” The movie tells the story of a sports agent who has a moral epiphany which results in him being fired.
In an attempt to retain his clients, he starts an independent management firm with single mother Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger) and manages to persuade one athlete – football player Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) – to continue working with him. But as Jerry and Dorothy struggle to make the business work, they end up falling in love.
