It isn’t often you get a chance to drive every single vehicle a car company makes, but that’s exactly what I’m about to do. I’m on my way out to Lucid’s headquarters in Silicon Valley, California to sample all the cars the fledgling automaker currently builds. Granted, that won’t exactly be hard. Right now, Lucid only builds the Air sedan, and I’m going to have seat time in all four trim levels, from the base-model Air Pure all the way up to the quarter-million dollar Sapphire.
Before I get behind the wheel of the Air Pure, Touring, Grand Touring and Sapphire, I want to know what you want to know about them. What’s keeping you awake at night about Lucid’s lineup? Want to know how they compare to each other? How about which one is best to drive? Which Air smells the best? Which tastes the best? Bestie, I’ll answer any question you ask.
Before we get into it, why don’t we go over some of the boilerplate stuff with the Air lineup. At the “bottom” of the heap, we find the Air Pure. It’s powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle that puts out a very healthy 430 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Even though it’s the cheapest, 0-to-60 mph is still dispatched in 4.5 seconds, and the range from the 88 kWh battery is between 394 and 410 miles depending on wheel size. Prices start at $71,400 including destination.
From there, we’ve got the Air Touring. That bumps you up to dual motors and all-wheel drive with 620 hp and 885 lb-ft of torque at your disposal. That’s good enough for you to reach 60 mphin 3.4 seconds, and you’ll get a range of 365 to 411 miles depending on wheel size from a larger 92-kWh battery. Prices start at $79,400.
I hear you though, you need more. Well, Lucid agrees and that’s why the Air Grand Touring exits. That car makes even more power from its dual motors: 819 horsepower and and 885 lb-ft of torque. Damn. The Grand Touring is all about, well, the grand tour. That means it comes with a 112-kWh battery that’s good for 516 miles if you’ve got the right wheels. That’ll get the job done. Despite that high number, hitting 60 mph takes just three seconds. Prices start at $111,400.
Finally, we get to the top dog: the Air Sapphire. This thing is an absolute missile because of its tri-motor setup (two in the rear and one up front) that pumps out an eye-watering 1,234 hp and 1,430 lb-ft of torque. Because of that, the 0-to-60 run is over in just 1.89 seconds, and it can hit a 205-mph top speed. The claimed range is still pretty solid, all things concerned. Lucid says the Sapphire’s 118-kWh battery is good for 427 miles of range. Prices start at $249,900.
So, that’s the Lucid Air lineup. How about ya drop down below and let me know what you want to know about it?
