Earlier today, I went for a short walk during my lunch break and passed a guy driving a Honda Fit. Immediately, “That’s a good dude right there,” popped into my head, which makes sense because I’ve never met a Honda Fit owner who I didn’t like. They’re just good people. That got me thinking, though. What are the cars that make you automatically lose respect for the owner?
When I brought it up, our delightful Erin Marquis mentioned that she once didn’t call a guy back after a date because he drove a Dodge Charger. Which is certainly well within her rights. Personally, I think I could date a woman who drove a Charger, but I am not nearly as delightful as Erin, and I have a habit of making poor decisions knowing I’ll at least get a good story out of it. At the very least, it would be an interesting couple of weeks before I died in a fiery crash on the side of the highway.
On the other hand, there’s the Hummer H2. Dates? Friends? Coworkers? Strangers? I just can’t respect someone who drives an H2. That’s not a car you just end up owning. A Chrysler PT Cruiser is a bad car, but maybe that’s all they could afford at the time, or maybe their grandma gave it to them when she stopped driving. I’m willing to give PT Cruiser owners the benefit of the doubt.
I cannot, however, extend that same courtesy to H2 owners. I will automatically assume you drive a Hummer because you wanted a Hummer. Out of all the SUVs you could have bought, you chose to buy a big, dumb Hummer. They may have other positive qualities, but I’ll still automatically lose respect for anyone I see driving a Hummer.
