We all like looking back and remembering all the ways in which things were better in our day, right? But if you had the power to bring something from “your day” back today, what would you go for? Would you bring back your stunning good looks, or would you revive a long-dead car that you always loved?
Hopefully it’s the latter, as that’s exactly what we’re asking today. If you had the power of the world’s biggest automakers behind you, what long-dead 80s car would you revive and reinvent for the modern motorist?
It’s a tough question, as there are a lot of great 80s cars that sadly aren’t with us anymore. You could look to bring back the Buick Grand National to remind the world what Buick was capable of, or you could bring back Saab with something like the wonderful 900 Turbo. I don’t think anyone would be mad about a car like that making a comeback.
Personally, I’d love to see a modern interpretation of the Alfa Romeo Spider. Sure, cars like the Giulia Quadrifoglio are great, but that’s not the kind of Alfa I want to drive. Instead, I want to get behind the wheel of a pokey little convertible that’s at home on cobbled Italian streets and winding country roads. It doesn’t need to be practical, it just needs to look great and have a roof that folds away to let in the Italian summer, that’s the life I want to live.
But what about you? If you were in charge of a global automaker what 1980s car would you bring back from the dead? Head to the comments section below and let us know your pick, we’ll round up some of the best responses in a slideshow next week.
