Wentworth in NSW has 10 new millionaires following $40 million syndicate win

A small town in NSW has 10 new millionaires, after a syndicate scored a $40 million Powerball jackpot.

The 10-person syndicate in Wentworth, in the far southwest of NSW, held the only division one winning entry in Thursday’s Powerball draw.

The group also scored division two a whopping 19 times, division eight four times and division nine once, bringing the group’s total win to $40,517,739

Each member will take home $4,051,773.90 in winnings.

But some members may not have learned their new millionaire status, as they purchased a syndicate share from their local newsagency.

Members of the syndicate are urged to check their tickets.

One winner said she “can’t believe it”.

“That’s really good,” she told an official from The Lott.

“We’re only a small town, and it’s crazy to think there’s now 10 multi-millionaires here.”

Syndicate members bought their tickets at Wentworth Lotto and News in Wentworth.

Owner Rowan Congress was stunned but ecstatic the big jackpot had landed in her small town.

“Oh, that’s beautiful!” she said.

“That’s great news for Wentworth. We’re in the middle of nowhere!”
