Van Jones Likens This Year’s RNC to Obama 2008: ‘There’s Something Happening’

CNN’s Van Jones on Thursday said the energy at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee was reminiscent of the 2008 Democratic National Convention when Barack Obama accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination.

“The last time I was in a convention that felt like this was Obama 2008,” said the former Obama adviser-turned-political commentator.

“There’s something happening,” Jones added.

Indeed, Republican speakers and attendees have appeared to be in buoyant mood at the political event, which began Monday just two days after Trump survived an attempt on his life at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Jones earlier in the week described the convention address given by model and television personality Amber Rose as “probably the most dangerous speech for the Democratic coalition,” calling it a “bunker buster.”

The pundit also called Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ speech “terrible” for sounding like “ChatGPT for mean people,” while Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders “was incredibly compelling” owing to the “personal stories” she told.

Jones has been a vocal supporter of Joe Biden but expressed his sadness after the president’s disastrous debate performance last month, saying: “I love that guy. That’s a good man. He loves his country. He’s doing the best that he can. But he had a test to meet tonight to restore the confidence of the country and of the base. And he failed to do that.”
