Ultra-Rare Coachbuilt Nissan GT-R50 By Italdesign Can Be Yours For An Undisclosed (Surely High) Price

If you’ve got a disgusting amount of money just sitting in an account somewhere, now’s your chance to buy something really unique. One of a handful of Italdesign’s coachbuilt R35 Nissan GT-R, the GT-R50, is currently for sale. We just don’t know how much it costs.

Luxury marketplace James Edition currently has this 2021 Nissan GT-R50 listed for sale on behalf of Canadian luxury car dealer Legendary Motor Car Company. Nissan and famed design studio Italdesign collaborated together back in 2018 for the latter’s 50th anniversary, with a goal to combine Japanese performance and Italian craftsmanship. The result of was the GT-R50 concept, which made the rounds at places like Goodwood and various auto shows around the world. It was so popular that Nissan announced it would be building 50 production units of the GT-R50 at $1.1 million a pop, with production finally starting in 2020. Allegedly only 19 ended up being made, and this one is number 11.

The GT-R50 looks like some GT-R from the not too distant future, with every body panel getting changed. Italdesign gave it a front fascia that’s an exaggerated version of the R35’s original concept’s, with a wide gaping maw and headlights that reach farther back into the hood. You’ll notice the greenhouse has been shortened by over two inches, and Italdesign kept the signature quad tail lights while a large adjustable wing sits atop a black rear deck that flows from the rear bumper to the roof. I think it all looks great.

Inside isn’t as exciting. While the concept had a totally unique interior, the production GT-R50 mostly looks the same as a normal R35. Aside from carbon-fiber trim and extensive use of Alcantara on the doors, seats, dash and roofliner, it doesn’t look as impressive as you’d think for something this special and expensive. The red accent trim around the air vents and dash looks cheap, too.

The GT-R50 isn’t all looks — there’s real performance here. Nismo massaged the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 to give it more power over a standard GT-R. Thanks to things like GT3-spec turbochargers, heavy-duty engine components and revised camshaft profiles, this engine makes 710 horsepower and 585 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a revised suspension setup with an adaptive damping system by Bilstein, big Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on the unique wheels.

The only options on this particular GT-R50 are the $27,000 silver metallic paint and the rear wing, which was $38,000. Despite all that performance, the description says that this GT-R50 was never driven and still has delivery mileage on it. If you’re interested, all this can be yours for… who knows. Both James Edition and Legendary Motor Car Company want interested buyers to reach out to them to find out the price. I reached out to them and got bupkis. Maybe someone out there with deeper pockets than I will have better luck getting an answer out of them.
