UK family pulled over by police for driving with children in boot of car

A family had their holiday cut short when they were pulled over by police while driving to their destination.

The family of seven were driving through the UK last week when they were pulled over.

Two children were lying without seatbelts in the boot of the stationwagon.

The driver was reported for three offences: Two counts of carrying a passenger with no seatbelt and one count of using a vehicle for an unsuitable purpose.

Northwest Motorway Police shared a post about the offences on its social media.

The comments on the post were divided, with many people saying they’d done similar things on family holidays.

“I remember sleeping on the back shelf of my mum’s car when seven of us would go to Cornwall,” one person said.

“Back in the 70s, I was in a Vauxhall Chevette with nine people … standard practice,” another said.

“I remember living in Harrogate as a kid and my dad managed to get at least eight (might’ve been more, long time ago) in his Triumph 2000 estate to go on the Stray to play cricket,” another person commented.

But many commented that times have changed, and safety standards have too.

“Unbelievable in this day and age,” one person said.

“You may have saved those children’s lives,” another said.

“Throw the book at them,” multiple people commented.
