Two people wanted by police after being seen running from stolen Audi following fiery truck crash that closed Logan Mwy

A stolen car is believed to have caused a fiery crash that injured a man, destroyed a truck and closed a Queensland motorway due to hazardous smoke.

Police are hunting for a man and a woman in their 30s seen running from the wrecked Audi S5 that crashed into a B-double truck which then erupted into flames on the Logan Mwy near Kingston Rd at Loganlea about 8.15pm on Tuesday.

It’s believed the car hit the back of the truck – which was carrying one tonne of lithium batteries and about 200kg of pesticide – which “continued to travel a few hundred metres before the truck ignited and became fully engulfed”, according to police.

The duo in the Audi were able to escape the scene in an “unknown direction”, police said.

The car had been stolen earlier in the evening in Durack, according to police.

The offenders were driving a white Mazda 3 — also stolen — when they crashed into the Audi and then stole it from the driver on Inala Ave.

The Mazda had been stolen in Eastern Heights in Ipswich from the driver when the duo crashed into it with a Ford Fiesta.

Police are yet to determine if the Ford Fiesta was also stolen.

Investigations are ongoing and police have called for any witnesses to come forward.

An emergency exclusion zone that was declared — encompassing the crash site and including ramps at Wembley Rd, Station Rd and Kingston Rd — was revoked on Wednesday morning.

But only one lane of the motorway on the eastbound side is open.

The westbound lanes were reopened overnight.

The truck driver — a man in his 50s — was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
