Two Australian tourists attacked while in Marseille, France for the Olympics

Two Australians have been attacked while visiting southern France for the Olympics.

7NEWS understands two Australian tourists were accosted while walking along Rue François Bazin towards Marseille’s main railway station, Saint-Charles, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Two men approached the pair before one of the Australians was punched in the stomach, local police say.

The attackers then stole their laptops, two cameras, a phone, a tablet, a drone, a Rolex watch as well as €200 in cash (A$330), their driver’s licenses and bank cards, totalling thousands of euros.

The pair filed a police report and an investigation is underway.

The attack occurred just 45 minutes after three Americans were targeted by three assailants, during which one was punched in the face.

French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche reports all five tourists had been visiting France for the Olympic Games.
