Trump secretly sent Putin Covid tests in 2020; Harris takes narrow lead over Trump in new poll: Live

Kamala Harris calls out Donald Trump’s ‘lack of empathy’

Donald Trump sent Vladimir Putin Covid-19 test kits at the height of the pandemic, according to a new book by veteran Watergate journalist Bob Woodward. The former president also spoke with the Russian leader as many as seven times after leaving the White House, it alleges.

The Trump campaign has called the stories “made up” and Woodward “demented and deranged” and a “sleazebag”.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with the co-hosts of ABC’s The View on Tuesday morning to discuss the campaign and her proposal for Medicare to cover at-home care for seniors.

The Democrat nominee is undertaking a media blitz, having appeared on CBS’s 60 Minutes on Monday on which she was pressed on her economic plan, US support for Ukraine and Israel, and her experiences as a gun owner.

Harris also appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show for a lengthy, wide-ranging interview and later is a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Her running mate Tim Walz was also grilled on 60 Minutes and made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show.

Trump will appear on Ben Shapiro’s show today.

Insiders from the Trump and Harris campaigns get candid about their election fears: ‘Nothing persuades anyone anymore’

In 27 days, Americans will go to the polls. Yet it remains unclear whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump has the edge in a byzantine electoral system that will determine the next American president.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report’s most recent poll of the swing states shows Harris with a two-point lead over Trump in Arizona; Trump two points ahead in Georgia; and Harris with three, one, and two-point leads in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, respectively.

The Democratic candidate also has a single-point advantage in Nevada and is tied with Trump in North Carolina, a state that no Democrat has carried since Barack Obama’s first presidential run in 2008.

All of those contested states are showing Harris well within the polling margin for error — in essence, a statistical tie everywhere. That makes the race to the 270 electoral college votes each candidate needs to claim victory an extremely difficult one to call.

Over the last week, The Independent reached out to insiders with both the Trump and Harris campaigns to get a sense of where each campaign feels that they stand.

‘Nothing persuades anyone anymore’: Trump and Harris insiders get candid

One says this election features ‘the most staggering issue I’ve seen in my entire 50-year career in American politics’. Another thinks North Carolina will decide everything. Howard Stern: Harris calls Trump ‘unserious man’ but another term in office ‘hugely serious’

Stern blasts Trump for the “I hate Taylor Swift” social media post after the pop star endorsed Harris.

“How can we have that kind of mentality… because she disagrees with his politics… he *hates* her?” Stern says.

Harris responds: “Donald Trump is an unserious man. And the consequences of him becoming President again are hugely serious.”

Howard Stern: Harris asked about Biden dropping out

Stern asked Harris about how she feels about President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 race in favor of her.

“History is going to show it was one of the most, one of the rarest moments of any president, with courage,” she replies.

Describing where she was when she got the news, as she did earlier on The View, she says: “I’m at home, it’s a Sunday afternoon, in my workout clothes. My niece, her husband, and her two daughters are with us.”

Stern also asked about what she says to people who don’t think a woman can be president.

Harris replied: “Listen, I’ve been the first woman in almost every position I’ve had. So I believe that men and women support women in leadership. And that’s been my life experience and that’s why I’m running for president.”

Howard Stern: Harris asked about relationship with second gentleman

Among the more personal details touched on during the interview by Stern, we learned that Harris likes to watch MSNBC’s Morning Joe while working out (30 minutes on an elliptical) and her favorite cereal is Special K.

Stern asks if it was hard to make a “love connection” with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and says he thinks most men would be intimidated by her.

She responds that Emhoff is “one of the strongest, most self-actualized men I’ve known,” she says. “He has the best sense of humor. I don’t want to say simple but he’s very clear: He cares about family, he cares about working hard.”
