Traffic Jams: Loose Tapestries – ‘Can’t Wait For Christmas’

Thanksgiving has been and gone, Christmas tree sellers are out in force and you’ve probably been sent out to the garage to start untangling festive lights. It’s happening, Christmas is finally here.

If your holiday cheer is a little low of late and no amount of mulled wine or gingerbread houses will get you in the Christmas spirit, then why not put the bottle down and turn up the music instead? And no, I don’t mean the usual run of tired old festive tunes that we all have seared into our brains. Instead, why not listen to a Christmas banger that features a Hollywood actor, the host of a cookery show and the guitarist from a band you’ve not thought about in 10 years?

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to a ridiculous little festive number from a band called the Loose Tapestries.

The song is a hoot and packs lead vocals from “Great British Baking” show host Noel Fielding, who previously cut his teeth as part of comic musical duo the Mighty Boosh. In this latest musical venture, he’s partnered up with lookalike and actual professional musician Sergio Lorenzo Pizzorno, the best-named member of British band Kasabian.

The pair wrote a whole album together as the Loose Tapestries, and there are some fun songs out there if you have more time to kill. Now is the time for Christmas music, though, which means it’s time to wrap your head around “Can’t Wait For Christmas.”

The track is a few years old now, but still features regularly on my festive playlist thanks to its jingling bells, catchy choruses and ridiculous lyrics. What’s more, it’s even got a rap about festive socks performed by none other than “Fast & Furious” actor Idris Elba. Really, what more do you want from a song to brighten up your drive into work today? Enjoy.
