40 years ago this month in Sarajevo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean stunned the world with a Winter Olympics ice skating free dance that was as flawless and emotional as it was revolutionary.
The single fluid piece to Ravel’s Bolero lit up the score board with perfect sixes (under the old marking system) and placed the Brits on top of the podium.
It remains an iconic sporting moment and the pair are back in the former Yugoslavian capital (now capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina) today to pay tribute to that memory and also announce their last-ever tour and final time on ice together.
Speaking today, they said: “We are thrilled to be back in Sarajevo 40 years on from that memorable day. Returning to the city which provided such a life-changing moment for us is incredibly nostalgic and brings back so many wonderful memories. We’re also feeling very emotional as we announce our 2025 farewell tour: Torvill & Dean: Our Last Dance.”
The 28-date tour will hit the ice at London’s OVO Arena in Wembley on 12 April, and will travel across the UK, finishing at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 11 May where fans will witness Torvill and Dean’s last-ever performance together.
Torvill and Dean added: “Whilst we will continue to work together off the ice, this will be the final time we will skate together following our 50-year partnership. But not without celebrating one final time with all of our incredible fans across the UK, who have supported us constantly over many years. We promise to put on an amazing live show – and we really hope to see you there!”
Fans, of course, can currently see them on our screens as Head Judges for the sixteenth series of Dancing On Ice, but only have one final chance to catch them recreating their unique magic next year.
