Top 10 PS5 games ranked – and GTA is nowhere to be found | Gaming | Entertainment

The PS5 is reportedly halfway through its lifecycle, which means developers are finally starting to get to grips with the hardware and what exactly it can do.

Things are about to get even better for PlayStation fans, as Sony confirms plans to release the upgraded PS5 Pro in November.

With the release of the PS5 Pro just weeks away, we thought now would be a good time to take a look at some of the best PS5 games you can buy right now, at least according to Metacritic.

Below are the top ten PlayStation 5 games at the time of writing, and due to a lack of official PS5 upgrades, there’s not a Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption in sight! It’s a far cry from the list of top ten PS4 games, which were dominated by studios such as Rockstar Games and Naughty Dog.

10. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

The first of three games on the list that launched in 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a bit of a surprise entry, especially considering it didn’t hit sales targets, and was criticised for having far too much filler.

It probably scored so highly due to the fact that long-time Final Fantasy 7 fans were finally able to explore the wider world outside of Midgar, something that was fantastically brought to life with the power of the PS5.

9. Resident Evil 4 Remake

9. Resident Evil 4 Remake

One of the greatest survival horror games ever made was given a makeover of the highest order when Capcom decided to completely remake Resident Evil 4.

Even though the original game is still beloved to this day, the company went above and beyond for the remake, transforming the visuals, overhauling the somewhat dated controls, and even adding new content.

8. Tetris Effect Connected

8. Tetris Effect Connected

You wouldn’t have thought a game about organising blocks into lines could be an emotional experience, but such is the genius of Tetris Effect Connected.

The perfect marriage between visuals, sound and action, Tetris Effect Connected adds new multiplayer options to the already superb single-player experience. It’s also perhaps the best reason to purchase a PSVR 2 headset, although it’s just as effective (if you’ll pardon the pun) without it.

7. Hades

7. Hades

You may not realise how much you’re enjoying Hades until you look at the clock and realise you’ve been playing for five hours straight. It’s an enormously addictive roguelike game where the aim is to escape the Underworld by defeating monsters, earning gold and collecting power-ups.

While you don’t get to keep all of your gold and abilities from each run, you’ll gradually unlock permanent upgrades that make you stronger and better equipped to defeat that one pesky boss that has been giving you so much trouble.

Go on then, just one more game before bed…

6. God of War Ragnarok

6. God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok is a direct sequel to the superb 2018 God of War reboot, continuing the story of Kratos and his son Atreus. While the predecessor saw the duo journey across a selection of the Nine Realms in order to spread a loved one’s ashes, Ragnarok sees them navigate a potential apocalypse!

Fans can once again expect stunning graphics, thrilling action and a surprising amount of tenderness in a game that earned an impressive 94% score on Metacritic.
