Tom Brady expected to be approved as Raiders minority owner

It appears Tom Brady is about to add another job title to his resume.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday, Brady’s bid to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders is expected to be approved on Tuesday at the league’s owners meetings in Atlanta.

When the process is approved Brady will have officially purchased 10% of the franchise from team owner Mark Davis. The transaction was originally agreed to in May, but the league forced the deal to be reworked because it was thought to be too much of a discount.

According to Schefter’s report, the NFL’s finance committee would not be bringing it to a vote if they did not expect it to be approved. It will require the approval of 24 of the league’s 32 owners.

Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl winner and future Hall of Famer, retired in 2023 and began his post-playing career as a broadcaster on Fox’s top broadcast team. He signed a 10-year, $375M contract to take on that role.

That is also going to be an interesting angle to his entrance into NFL ownership. His role as an owner could limit his pre-game access with teams when it comes to preparation for broadcasting games, and could also limit how critical he can be of officials and calls on the field.

He will no longer just be former NFL quarterback Tom Brady. He will not be minority owner of an NFL team Tom Brady. That could create some headaches for him attempting to do his new job to the best of his abilities, and it could create a headache for Fox whose new top analyst might be limited in how he can prepare and what he can say.
