We all know the O’Reilly Auto Parts Jingle. It’s been around since the 1990s and it’s just undeniably catchy, but what if it was more than that? What if the O’Reilly Auto Parts Jingle was beautiful, melancholy, thought provoking and even inspirational? Well, one TikToker made it just that.
Chandler Hudson, a music TikToker, asked the question, “What if the O’Reilly Song was rewritten as a Movie Cover.” For those who don’t know (because I didn’t), movie cover music is music in a film that includes songs that are riffs on existing intellectual property. Usually, they show up in trailers. Anyway, that’s exactly what Hudson did with the O’Reilly Auto Parts Jingle.
I won’t spoil too much of it, since my words can’t really capture how pretty he makes this simple jingle sound. It starts out with the standard jingle, but quickly descends into an atmospheric sound with the simple keys from the jingle being played on piano. After a little while, an almost hopeful-sounding melody begins to play with string instruments and drums as we see Hudson build the very project he’s showing us on his computer. It damn near brought a tear to my eye. The song then ends with a replaying of the six notes on piano as Hudson sits back, admiring his work. Of course, no O’Reilly Auto Parts Jingle would be complete without the loud “OW!” stinger at the end, so that’s exactly how he finishes up his creation.
Is this all a bit silly? Sure, but there should be some whimsy and silliness to art, in my opinion, and this shit is art. I have listened to it a worrying amount of times since discovering it, and I’m sure you all will do. You wouldn’t be alone, either.
