An influencer has shared instructions on how to spot a “rare” $20 note that could be worth nearly $4750.
Joel Kandiah, a Perth-based TikToker and numismatist, says Australians could unknowingly be sitting on a small fortune.

Kandiah points out two defining features of the “rare notes” in his instructional video.
“Here’s a $20 note that can fetch you between $1750 and $4750,” he said.
“Look for a Fraser/Evans signature combination and a serial number starting with PE 94.”
Kandiah said there were “still a lot” of these notes currently in circulation.
“Happy hunting!” he said.
Kandiah’s video has since received more than 1.3 million views on his account The History of Money, and hundreds of comments from shocked Australians.
“Me instantly checking my wallet,” one person said.
“Check your notes,” another added.
Many money collectors are willing to pay thousands of dollars more than the nominal value of a banknote depending on factors such as date, condition, serial number and signature.
