These RoC Skincare Serum Capsules Are Exactly What My Dry, Sensitive Skin Needs – Review

Admittedly, I haven’t been taking great care of my skin. Between the cold weather outside, hot showers, and my prescription tretinoin, my skin has been flaky and sensitive. The RoC Skincare Serum Capsules are just one treatment I tested to help soothe the areas of my face that are stinging — and it’s one that I plan to keep in my skin-care lineup.

As the name of the product suggests, the serum is housed in individually wrapped capsules. “Encapsulating ingredients helps preserve efficacy and lengthens shelf life through protection from environmental conditions,” explains cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos. “Exposure to light and air can accelerate the breakdown of cosmetic ingredients, decreasing potency and effectiveness.” The capsules — which are about a centimeter long — also make the serum way easier to bring with me everywhere.

After cleansing my face, I rip the tip of the capsule to reveal a dime-sized amount of a clear, slightly viscous liquid. It easily spreads across my face (and partially down my neck) and feels slick and slightly oily until it’s fully absorbed.

In the short term, it leaves my skin feeling hydrated (thanks to hyaluronic acid) and soothed and looking dewy. With long-term use, “this product can improve skin texture with its emollient effects,” explains Brendan Camp, MD, a double board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist in New York. “Emollients like caprylic/Capric triglyceride work to fill in cracks to make it feel even, soft, and smooth.” And I plan to use every last drop of this serum, as it’s the drink of hydration my skin has been craving.
