Since Kim and Stacy had to build out a wardrobe for four days of events, they decided to work with stylist Sophie Strauss to help craft their looks. “I’ve never hired a stylist that I’ve worked so closely with and now I already miss our daily interactions,” says Kim. “Sophie introduced me to brands I wouldn’t have known and also helped me move out of my comfort zone.” To show off her footwear at her Toronto wedding, Kim donned a custom off-the-shoulder midi dress by Rachel Gilbert. “My dear friend Fabrizio Viti, who is the women’s shoes designer for Louis Vuitton and an avid Barbie collector, designed bespoke, pink slingback heels with anemone appliqués with black crystal centers that reflected the flowers in my bouquet and in our ceremony and dinner florals,” says Kim. For the welcome party, Kim donned a slinky black dress with a floral detail by Datt Official with white and crystal Louboutins. “In the end, it was Stacy’s favorite look and I felt comfortable and sexy in it,” says the bride. For her Los Angeles ceremony, Kim went shopping at LOHO Bride, where she fell in love with a gown by NEWHITE. “[It] was the first dress I tried on and not a look I had chosen for myself or expected at all,” she shares. “The credit goes to Sophie and Destiny at LOHO for finding the gown that expressed how I wanted to feel.”
Stacy shares she often felt uncomfortable with fashion “reflecting my confusion around my own identity.” Working custom suit designer James Ford was just what she needed to find her perfect navy and black wedding day look. “Any trepidation I had melted away once in James’ capable hands,” Stacy shares. “He oozes positivity and made me feel comfortable and engaged from the get-go.” For her other ensembles, Strauss pulled pieces Stacy loved by Ralph Lauren, Fendi, and Veronica Beard. “I got to wear Converse high-tops, too,” she adds.
The festivities kicked into full gear once the newlyweds landed in Los Angeles and brought their community together at karaoke. “Full disclosure—I didn’t want the welcome party to stop,” says Kim. “It was incredible to watch all of our worlds intersect and we were so pleased that our guests jumped right into karaoke without hesitation.” The morning of the wedding also had a musical moment: Stacy wrote a song for Kim that she was planning to perform at the reception with her children. “I had to find a 15-minute window to rehearse my song for Kim without her knowing. No easy feat,” says Stacy. “I grabbed my guitar and texted the family to meet me in my daughter’s hotel room. We went through the song a few times, then I slipped back into our room without missing a beat. Kim had no idea!”
The couple describes the ceremony at Hotel Per La as magical. “It was important to us that our families and friends felt the blending of our lives happening in real time and saw themselves and our individual histories reflected in the ceremony,” shares Kim. Members of their family joined throughout for songs, readings, and a special unity ritual. Kim notes, “I felt so many things during our ceremony—the most prominent was joy and gratitude to be marrying such a wonderful and loving woman and becoming a stepmom to those two incredible humans.”
The rest of the night continued with plenty of dancing, singing, and traditions special to the couple. “Creating this container and platform of beauty and celebration for one of the best and most important moments of our lives was unforgettable,” reflects Kim. “Sharing that all with the people we love most in the world marked our union with so much joy and love.”
