The northern town named one of top wellness hotspots in UK – ‘its location is a big plus’

The UK may be a small country but it is home to a wide array of unique towns and cities.

These places each offer something a bit different, whether it’s the landscape and green spaces, shopping experience or history.

As a result, certain towns and cities may be more desirable places to live than others.

And this was demonstrated by a survey carried out by floral delivery service Flowercard which determined the best locations in the UK for residents’ wellbeing.

The study took into account seven different factors across the UK’s biggest cities, including air quality, gyms per 100,000 people and average life expectancy.

As reported by Country Living, a spokesperson for Flowercard explained: “We wanted to investigate how easy it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and look after your wellbeing in different parts of the country.

“Is there a perfect place for making wellness a central part of your life?

“And are there certain places where wellness is that much more difficult to achieve?

“We’ve looked at seven different factors across the UK’s biggest cities to find out which location is the country’s wellness capital.

“So, from the number of gyms and spas in the area to local life expectancy, which city will see you living your best life?”

Taking the top spot was the seaside city of Brighton on the south coast.

However, a northern town was also ranked highly, with Warrington placing at number seven.

Situated between Manchester and Liverpool, Warrington played a key role in the Industrial Revolution due to its involvement in steel and textile production.

And nestled on the banks of the River Mersey, it boasts picturesque waterfronts.

Part of its appeal is its location, according to Visit Chesire.

The site says: “Its location is a big plus. It’s close to Liverpool and Manchester and within easy reach of the Peak District, North Wales and the Lake District even the Trans-Pennine Trail passes through the borough.”

“There’s also plenty to enjoy in Warrington for keen shoppers.

“Today, you’ll find a busy town centre with great shopping on offer including Golden Square, home to all the major brands under one roof,” Visit Cheshire says.

“Out-of-town retail parks feature mega-stores galore including the first IKEA in Britain.”

There’s also lots going on in terms of events.

The site adds: “Events, fetes and festivals take place throughout the year across the area including, Warrington Walking Day, classic car shows, the annual contemporary arts festival, farmers and themed markets – and even a welly-wanging competition!

“Warrington is also blessed with fabulous parks, glorious canals and wonderful countryside too just waiting to be explored including Rixton Claypits, Lymm Dam, Risley Moss, Woolston Eyes and Appleton Dingle.

“Must-see attractions include Walton Hall and Gardens (home to a delightful children’s zoo) and Gulliver’s World theme park with its fabulous hotel.”

House prices in Warrington are also below those in other parts of the country.

According to Rightmove, properties in Warrington had an overall average price of £265,127 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Warrington during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £246,118. Terraced properties sold for an average of £186,463, with detached properties fetching £440,563.
