The least confusing X-Men movie watch order before Deadpool and Wolverine | Films | Entertainment

Unlike other franchises, the X-Men movies haven’t been released entirely in chronological order. But to make matters even more confusing, 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past created an alternate timeline which wiped out the events of some of the films.

So if you want to see all the X-Men movies, just what order should you watch them in before seeing Deadpool and Wolverine?

By our calculation, it’s less confusing to watch the original timeline chronologically, before doing the same with the alternate timeline.

As for the first two Deadpool movies, they’re kind of their own thing with meta jokes about the X-Men timeline inconsistencies, so we’d suggest saving them for right at the end.

It’s also worth noting that 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies are set in a different universe to those of Disney’s MCU Avengers. However, following a studio merger, Deadpool and Wolverine now comes under Disney’s Marvel Studios banner. This presumably means the pair will interact with MCU superheroes via the multiverse, either in this movie or upcoming ones.

Original X-Men movie timeline

X-Men: First Class (2011) – set in 1962

X-Men: Origins Wolverine (2009) – set in 1979

X-Men (2000) – set in 2003

X2 (2003) – set in 2003

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) – set in 2006

The Wolverine (2013) – set in 2013

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) – set in original timeline’s 2023, before Wolverine time travels back to 1973 and returns to alternate 2023 in the newly created timeline.

It’s here where everything changes: the X-Men from the original timeline’s 2023 decide to change the past in 1973, so that a post-apocalyptic future never occurs – thus creating an alternate timeline from 1973 onwards.
