It’s finally happening: The Devil Wears Prada Musical is coming to London.
With lyrics written by the legendary Elton John, this adaptation of the bestselling novel and the 2006 movie of the same name will send viewers back into the world of Runway Magazine.
The show is due to begin in October, 2024, and will run until May, 2025 – so there’s plenty of time to see the fabulous rendition of the story.
The Devil Wears Prada Musical will find its new home in London’s Dominion Theatre, on Tottenham Court Road, where it’ll (for now) reside throughout its tenure.
At the moment, however, the show is shrouded in a lot of secrecy. The age restriction and running time have not yet been revealed – so there’s lots to look forward to.
Tickets for the show are out right now. A lot of them are being sold by London Theatre Direct – one of the largest ticket-sellers in the West End.
The company’s Director of Business Development, Ryan Woods, commented: “We are thrilled to be the priority agent for The Devil Wears Prada musical. This will undoubtedly be one of the biggest new shows to open in London for a long time. An iconic film along, music by the legendary Elton John and with Jerry Mitchell at the helm – tickets will be flying out the door! At the time of writing, the official cast of The Devil Wears Prada Musical has not yet been released.
However, many rumours have sprung up online leading to some wild speculation.
The biggest and most exciting rumour is that Hannah Waddingham will be playing Runway Magazine’s matriarch Miranda Priestly.
The Ted Lasso and Hocus Pocus 2 star, Eurovision Song Contest host, musical icon, and general all-time phenomenon has been on West End stages for decades, so her casting as Priestly would be exceptional.
She would be taking over from Meryl Streep, who played the anti-hero in the 2006 movie.
This article will be updated when the cast is announced.
The Devil Wears Prada Musical is based on the bestselling book of the same name (sans “musical”), which was written by Lauren Weisberger.
The official synopsis of the musical is below:
“Fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy scores a job at the prestigious Runway magazine working for fashion’s most powerful and terrifying icon – editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda’s impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once despised. How far will she go to succeed… and will it be worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted?”
The Devil Wears Prada Musical is set to take place in London’s Dominion Theatre.
This 2,000+ capacity venue is located on Tottenham Court Road and is a former cinema owned by the Nederlander Organisation.
At the time of writing, the Dominion Theatre is home to Grease The Musical.
