When it comes to summer style, there are little to no rules—anything goes in the quest to beat the heat! That was certainly the case on the red carpets this week: The best-dressed stars embraced outfits that ranged from the subtle to bold, proving there is room for both minimalist and maximalist approaches to fashion this season.
On the more refined and subdued side, Zoë Kravitz was a vision in her elegant black Saint Laurent gown at the Blink Twice premiere in LA; the side cutouts added just the right amount of modernity. Ditto Joey King, who appeared at a Variety event in a black Moschino suit with a metallic, tinsel-like top—a fun touch.
Indeed, crystals and shimmer also had a big role to play in the more statement-making looks this week. At the premiere of Borderlands in Hollywood, Cate Blanchett slipped into a Hodakova top made of 102 spoons—an unexpected take on metallic dressing; and at the premiere of It Ends with Us in New York City, Blake Lively made headlines when she sported a multicolor Versace dress first worn by Britney Spears back in 2002. The most eye-popping look of the past few days, however, came courtesy of Rihanna, who attended the Crop Over Festival in Barbados wearing a blingy bikini and theatrical wings. She is a master of carnival style, after all.
